How common are airline bankruptcies?

To get a simple count, in the first step, variable H, check category 45 Transportation by Air.  In the second step, check only the boxes for Company Names and Frequency.  In the third step, select C. Industry.  Submit your query by clicking at the button on the bottom of the page.  The output will show you the number of airline bankruptcies and the names of the airlines.

By changing your choice in the Third Step and resubmitting, you can learn about other characteristics of this group of airline bankruptcies: the years in which they were filed, the cities or districts of filing, whether they were voluntary or involuntary cases, whether the plans were prepackaged or prenegotiated, whether the airlines filed at their headquarters, their states of incorporation, or whether they emerged and refiled.
